John Sichel

John Sichel’s Piano Trio premiered in April, 2006, at a New York Philharmonic Ensembles concert in Merkin Hall, New York City. Other recent premieres include his Francesca da Bimini by Leonard Slatkin and the National Symphony Orchestra (2003), Three Movements for guitar and viola by Duo Fresco (2005), and Four Songs (2005) by Irina Mozyleva and Helene Jeanney. The New Philharmonic has premiered several of Dr. Sichel’s works, including, most recently, Concerto Mystico II, heard in March, 2003, with Lenore Fishman Davis, soloist, and Maestro Hyman conducting. Other recent works include a string quartet, a clarinet quintet and two piano sonatas.

Performances of Dr. Sichel’s music have taken place in Italy, Croatia, Slovakia, Austria, Germany and China, as well as in many American venues. A CD of solos and duets is available on the Musicians Showcase label, while two of his marches have been recorded for Newport Classic by the wind band Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, and his Three Places in New Jersey was recorded for the Opus One label by the Slovak Radio Orchestra, Joel Suben, conductor. His music is published by Ludwig Music, Puna Music and Great Horned Music.

Dr. Sichel studied at Princeton University and the Yale School of Music, where his teachers included Martin Bresnick, Jacob Druckman and Nicholas Maw. He is currently on the faculty of Raritan Valley Community College and is curator and trustee of the A. Louis Scarmolin Trust. His orchestrations of Anthony Scarmolin’s music have been recorded on the Naxos and Centaur labels.
